UZPR alertează instituțiile internaționale de presă în legătură cu agresarea jurnaliștilor de către Jandarmerie

Având în vedere gravitatea agresiunilor comise împotriva jurnaliștilor care transmiteau de la mitingul Diasporei, din 10 august 2018, Uniunea Ziariștilor profesioniști din România a alertat numeroase organisme de presă internaționale, precum și pe partenerii media de peste hotare, în legătură cu necesitatea ca Justiția din România să acționeze prompt pentru pedepsirea celor vinovați de actele violente respective, precum și a celor care le-au comandat.
Reiterăm faptul că UZPR condamnă cu fermitate aceste acte inadmisibile într-o societate europeană și democratică, în care reprezentanții mass-media au dreptul să-și facă meseria de a informa publicul fără să fie amenințați sau agresați de forțele de ordine ale statului.

Union of Professional Journalists in Romania calls for justice for the journalists aggressed in Victory Square

Union of Professional Journalists in Romania is firmly condemning the violent clashes in Bucharest, which left many journalists injured, on Friday evening, August 10th.

Romanian gendarmes assaulted and verbally attacked with no reason journalists covering the protest around Victoriei Square, in Bucharest. The evolution of the acts, voluntary and involuntary, committed by the gendarmes on August 10, 2018 against the protestors in Victoriei Square confirms the correctness of the prompt position of the Union of Professional Journalists in Romania regarding this slippage. If we accept them, if we are silent, we are as guilty as those who have struck. Especially given the fact that among the aggressed were journalists: reporter Cristian Popa and operator Cristi Ban, both from Digi 24, reporter Silviu Matei from Agerpres, journalist Robert Mihăilescu from HotNews, Ioana Moldovan, photojournalist Documentaria.ro, Cristi Ştefănescu.
The Union of Professional Journalists in Romania reaffirms its attitude towards the condemnation of unwarranted violence and, in consensus with the Council of Europe’s referral to the International Federation of Journalists and the European Federation of Journalists, urges the state institutions – and especially the Justice system – to act. Anti-European and anti-human treatment applied to journalists by gendarm troops requires a response and a minimum of compensation. Otherwise, unanswered, this situation creates a dangerous precedent and, consequently, its repetition.
Justice must do its job urgently, or the escalation of public tensions and their collateral effects will not stop, but in fact it might, among other things, lead to unjust public delinquencies that will divert the sense of truth and will accentuate the radicalization in Romanian society.
The Union of Professional Journalists in Romania is expressing its concern about this extremely serious situation, both through its punctual coordinates and the imminence of serious consequences. Therefore, we have alerted international press organisations and media parteners abroad concerning the atitude towards journalists who were just doinig their job of informing the public.
